Diamond
Academy Evaluation Guidelines
- 5 stations will be put
together. They are Infield/Outfield, Pitching, Catching, Hitting,
Speed/Agility
- each league will supply volunteers at each station
- Diamond Academy provides evaluators. All of our
evaluators have played a high level of baseball and have been
coaching at various levels for more than 30 combined years.
- scoring is a 5 point scale (1-5), in half point increments. We do
not believe that anyone is a 0.
- Because pitching is such a large part of youth baseball, pitching
score will be doubled. This will be explained in more detail.
- catching station is mandatory for everyone except for 7/8 year
olds
- catchers will wear only a mask and glove, probably their own
(easier to catch tennis balls)
- catchers will be on rubber mats and as mentioned, we will use
tennis balls
- hitting eval will consist of soft toss...not from the side but
with L screen about 5 feet from batter
- infield/outfield station will be combined
- speed station will consist of basically a home to first
time. Scoring will be to just write down the kids time and we will
come up with the scale after evals based on all times.
- a "no show" for evals means the following:
Average scoring. For example, if the player is 9 years old, we take
the
average score for all 9 year olds and assign that score.
